Beer Tap TV News:

On this week’s episode of Beer Buzz Eli and Erik discuss the world’s top ten beer countries, the apparent decline of the Western European beer drinking culture, new brews from Avery and Odell, and what Eli (who is a beer AND gaming geek) considers the greatest beer gadget he has ever seen!  Oh, but that’s just the tip o’ the beer-berg… so dive in and watch all of this week’s beery goodness.

Beer Buzz is the weekly show that will keep you informed and updated on all the things going on in the beer world, from the noteworthy to the nutty.  Know something we don’t (which is highly likely)?  Email us at AlwaysHoppy@BeerTapTV.com and share the news… we just might use it.

UPDATES

Last week’s winner was Whoptbird who managed to sneak in the correct answer mere seconds before WayneTheTrain did.  The answer to last week’s  question (what was the first paved street in America and what did it have to do with brewing) was:  “Brouwers Alley in NY and is currently today called Stone St. It was paved by the city due to the high traffic the breweries on the street generated which turned them into a muddy mess.”   Brandon (Whop’s real name) won a copy of Chris Wright’s Beer Journal, which Chris may in fact sign since he’ll be at this weekend’s Foam Fest and hopefully the Beer Tap TV fantasy football draft on Sunday at Old Chicago!

This week’s trivia question is… the first person to watch the show and reply with the correct answer in that episode’s respective forum thread – wins!

Don’t forget, Foam Fest is Saturday, August 29, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Antler’s Park in downtown Colorado Springs. Go to www.oldchicagofoamfest.com for all the details!

The Beer Tap TV fantasy football draft is on Sunday, August 30.  You still have time to sign up, so go to Fantasy Leagues under the Beer Tap TV Bar. And yes, we’re playing for beer!  If you’re in the area come on down to the Old C’s on Woodmen & I-25 on Sunday afternoon for the draft party (see details below).

EVENT:  “Foam Fest Hangover/Fantasy Draft Party”
DATE:  Sunday, August 29
TIME:  2:00 PM MDT (we said Noon on the show, but we’re moving it to accommodate a Tap Head who REALLY wants to be there)
PLACE:  Old Chicago’s at Woodmen and I-25

And don’t forget…  we’re on Facebook too, so become a become a fan today!

BEER NEWS

Story #1: FOLLOW UP – Will you drink beer in a box? -  Last week’s story about MillerCoors testing beer in a box stired up some great discussion on the BTTV forums. Enough for us to do a follow up.  Tap Head “ArtVandely” provided us with a link to more coverage of this story over on Wallet Pop.  “Art” and fellow Tap Head “Jmaslar” brought up some good points about beer in a box.  Had a micro brew done this, would we be thinking differently?  They brought up the point that wine in a box is actually starting to gain some credibility because it delivers the liquid libation to the consumer in a much better format.  Can the same be said for beer in a box?

Story #2: Hey, Ladies … It’s Not Beer, It’s Medicine -  Article written by Tom Jacobs for Miller-McCune Magazine.  New full-bodied research finds beer drinking increases bone mass in older women.

Story #3: Germany surrenders in war of the beer drinkers? -  Article by Michael Rundle on the Asylum UK website.  Sales of German beer are at their lowest since records began 18 years ago

Story #4: Denver Rare Beer Tasting Announces Unique Beer Line Up -  “This is a phenomenal collection of the best craft breweries in America. They have a real passion for great beer and the special beers they are bringing to this event (at the GABF) are some of the hardest to find in the world,” said Daniel Bradford, publisher of All About Beer Magazine.

Beer Buzz 039: Dlugosch the Douche!

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Beer Tap TV News:

This week on Beer Buzz Eli and Erik get worked up over beer in a box, a “journalist” who thinks “all beer is pretty much the same,” 45-million year old yeast, another mind-blowing beer gadget, and tons more!

UPDATES

This week’s winner is ECBeat all the way from the Land Down Under.  This Tap Head not only gets the big giant moose head from DeCapper,  but gets the nod for being the first out of country winner we’ve had. And where will this week’s winner come from? Well, we’re switching things up a bit.  Instead of just giving out gifts willy nilly, we’re making ya work for it.  The FIRST person to correctly reply (in this thread – DO NOT send us an EMail) to the trivia question asked in this week’s episode wins the silver bullet DeCapper.  Signed by us if you want. ;)

Don’t forget, Foam Fest is Saturday, August 29, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Antler’s Park in downtown Colorado Springs.  Go to www.oldchicagofoamfest.com for all the details!

BEER NEWS

Story #1: Will you drink beer in a box? Not only is MillerCoors coming out with beer in a box (ugh!), but “journalist”  James Dlugosch of MSN’s Money Blog “Top Stocks” thinks “despite what the microbrewers will tell you, all beer is pretty much the same. Consumers who pay a premium do so more for the experience than the taste.”  WTF?!?!?! Let us know what you think about that asinine comment!

Story #2:   Get your U.S. Representative to join the House Small Brewers Caucus. The AHA sent out an action alert last week asking beer enthusiasts to contact their U.S. Representative and ask him/her to join the House Small Brewers Caucus.

Story #3:   New Jersey beer named after highway exits angers activists. A New Jersey brewery is naming it’s beer after the state’s turnpikes, which has the panties of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and MADD in a bunch.

Story #4:  Amber Ale: Brewing Beer From 45-Million-Year-Old Yeast. Using yeast extracted from a 45-million year old piece of amber, a California brewery is making a truly unique beer.
