BEER NEWS

Story #1: Story #1:  World of Warcraft’s Brewfest – With twelve million subscribers WoW (as it’s known by gamers) is the world’s biggest and most successful massive multiplayer online game.  You probably know someone who plays it.  The craft beer phenomena hasn’t escaped their notice either as they will be holding a massive in-game Brewfest from September 20 – October 4.

Story #2: U.S. drinkers continue to leave imports on the shelf – “Things just don’t seem to be getting any better for our imported beer shipments. Beer Institute released figures yesterday indicating that imported beer shipments were down another 8.1% in July, bringing year-to-date import shipments down 9.3%, or a loss of about 160,000 case equivs a day.”

Story #3: Are you Enjoying Seasonal Beers this Fall? – Harvest Ales are incredibly popular.  According to Information Resources Inc., fall seasonal craft beers generated the highest case and dollar sales last year. Seasonal beers as a category reached new limits in 2008, with sales up 15.7% over 2007 in U.S. supermarkets.

Story #4: Bristol’s Zymurgy Institute – Beer School is back in session at Bristol Brewing Company. This year they’ve partnered with Colorado State University’s Continuing Education department to offer a 20 part lecture series on a variety of beer-related topics that started at the end of August, but you can still attend!

UPDATES

Last week’s winner was ArtVandely who won 10 weeks ago, beating our new and improved 8 week win limit… so congrats to Art for giving us 4 (instead of just 3) of the correct beer names on the shelf. Art gets himself a signed copy of Charles Bamforth’s book, BEER: Tap into the Art and Science of Brewing.

This week’s trivia question is a doooozey!  Watch to see what it is!

We thought this was so cool that we had to pimp ourselves… a few weeks ago on Taste Buds (episode #120 to be exact) we featured the Imperial Red from local brewery Rockyard.  Well, not long after that episode went live a liquor store on the East Coast gave them a call and told them they wanted to start carrying their beer in their store. Proof positive that Beer Tap TV has a pretty significant reach. So all you breweries… if you want your beer to be noticed, and apparently carried at out of region locations, get in touch with us and send us your beers!  Think of us a your free PR machine!

Tomorrow is the anniversary of September 11… be sure to take a moment out of your busy day to remember all those folks we lost on that tragic day.

Last week’s winner was Kanepole, who also won not too long ago… so congrats to Kanepole for answering that Ben Franklin in fact did not say that “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” What he did say however is this: “Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards; there it enters the roots of the vines, to be changed into wine; a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy.” Kanepole gets won himself the football DeCapper!

Now for some rule changes… which we should have done before now. If you win something you can not win again for 8 weeks. It’s only fair.

OK, this week’s trivia question is… On the October 29th episode of Beer Buzz, name 3 of the beers sitting on the shelf behind Erik’s shoulder.  If you answer correctly you get a signed copy of Charles Bamforth’s book, Beer: Tap into the Art and Science of Brewing (Hardcover).
