Beer Buzz 048: Screw the Monster!

Beer Tap TV News:

This week Eli and Erik rant and rave about beer lists, how a mega corp needs a beat down, a Palestinian brewery, another world class beer douche, and a few other things that seem to have the boys all fired up.   Oh, and they’re giving away another signed copy of George Wendt’s book, Drinking with George!  This is one episode you do not want to miss!

Beer Buzz is the ONLY weekly show anywhere in the known universe dedicated to bringing you the latest about the beer industry.  Know something we don’t (which is highly likely)?  Email us at AlwaysHoppy@BeerTapTV.com and share the news… we just might use it.

BEER NEWS

Story #1: The Men’s Journal Top Five Beer Towns in the U.S. – No hate intended towards any of the cities on this list -they’re admirable, and most of them deserve to be on it, but any time you rattle off a “best beer anything” and Denver, Colorado is not listed… flag! Personal foul: not knowing about the beer culture.  Now, we’re not hometown homers by any means. In fact, it’s not so much the cities themselves that we have issue with as the beer douches that put this list together. We point out the bigger problems with their beer knowledge (or lack thereof)…

Story #2: Forbes Magazine says “Beer Levels the Playing Field” – A world-class brew can be made anywhere in the world, in any style. Unlike winemakers, who depend on local ingredients and growing conditions, brewers have options — and that’s part of what makes a brewer more like a chef than like a winemaker.  See why…

Story #3: “Monster” versus “Vermonster” – Hansen Beverage Co., the maker of the energy drink “Monster,” wants tiny Rock Art Brewery to stop using the name “Vermonster” on their brew and to compensate it for its attorneys’ fees.  Why?  Because the mega corp thinks it might confuse the consumer. Apparently they think we’re all mindless sheep because energy drinks are always confused with beer.  This is one fight the mega “Monster” wish it had never started cuz the public is going to rip it a new asshole.

Story #4: Time Magazine profiles a Palestinian brewery in the West Bank – Madees Khoury is 24 and the only woman brewer — or brewster — in the Middle East. She’s being groomed by her family to take over the Taybeh brewery, home of the only Palestinian beer. With just 2,000 residents, Taybeh is the last remaining all-Christian village in the Holy Land.  See what makes this such a unique brewery by watching the Time video “West Bank Brew: The Beer That Made Taybeh Famous”.
