Beer Buzz 060: Beerknobs, robes & science!
Beer Tap TV News:
Eli talks about beer caves and explains how flying the friendly skies just became beerier. Erik goes AWOL and turns into Mr. Science, then decides there should be Equity for Punks. Plus, the guys ask another trivia question, talk about a Raging Bitch, a homebrew competition, a Beer Sphere, and BeerKnobs. All this and more on this week’s episode of Beer Buzz!
Beer Buzz is the ONLY weekly, televised show that keeps you up to date on what’s going on in the beer world, from the noteworthy to the nutty. Know something we don’t (which is highly likely)? Email us at alwayshoppy@beertaptv.com and share the news!
Show Notes:
UPDATES
Last week’s big winner was Wayne the Train (AKA Wayne) who correctly answered: How many breweries were active in the United States one hundred years ago in 1910? The answer we were looking for was - 1,568 breweries! For his efforts Wayne walked away with the biggest prize package we’ve ever given out!
This week’s trivia question is somewhere in the depths of this episode. We’ll be moving it around often, so be sure to watch the entire episode.
We’re going to be doing a State of the Beer Tap TV Union address soon to bring you up to speed on the changes we’re making… such as why hasn’t there been a Taste Buds, what to expect from the new website, what we’re working on as far as new shows go, etc. So stay Tuned!
We’re on Facebook and YouTube! And if you want to watch us in High-Def on your Big Screen… we’re now on TiVo under the Food & Drink section. Additionally, we are the only beer show listed as a “Recommended Website” on the Brewers Association’s new, kick ass interactive website – CraftBeer.com. Go to the tab “Stories” –> Recommended Website –> Craft Beer Web Casts/Pod-Casts (http://www.craftbeer.com/pages/stories/recommended-websites).
We filmed a ton of video at the 2009 GABF. Go watch it here –> Beer Tap TV GABF page and on the GABF video hub page on Examiner.com.
BEER NEWS
Story #1: Is there an echo in this Beer Cave? – A century ago the Ebling Brewing Company chilled its beer in a series of caves – some more than 20 feet wide and 100 feet deep – built into a hill behind its headquarters in Melrose, New York. Eventually the buildings were leveled and replaced with a crude parking lot and the caves were covered and forgotten. Until now that is.
Story #2: Chemical In Beer May Prevent Prostate Cancer – Experiments have shown that xanthohumol, a compound derived from the hops in beer, blocks a chemical reaction that can lead to the development of cancer. Erik explains how.
Story #3: “Flying the Friendly Skies” takes on a whole new meaning! – Beers from Gordon Biersch (Marzen) and 21st Amendment (Brew Free! or Die IPA) are now avaiable on Virgin America flights! Can you say hallelujah!
Story #4: Story #4: BrewDog’s Equity for Punks Update – As we talked about last week, BrewDog needed a little help to get over their target of £500,000. As of January 2nd they were up to £410,000 and after talking with James on Monday. UPDATE: We’re happy to report they reached their goal!
