In this special Christmas eve episode of Taste Buds Erik and Dusty overdose on chocolate beers: Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence and Sam Adam’s Chocolate Bock.
Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence (Ommegang Brewery, Cooperstown, NY)
The aroma of dark chocolate and dark malts combines with the Perle hops compliments, making the beer savory to the senses. Ommegang uses a special strand of Belgian yeast which introduces the distinct fruity note.
ABV – 7%
Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock (Boston Beery Company, Boston, MA)
Sam Adams partnered with Felchlin, a renowned Swiss chocolatier, to develop this brew. They started with a careful selection of roasted malts combined with hand-selected Noble hops from Bavaria. After using an ancient brewing process called Krausening, they slowly aged the beer on a bed of rare dark cocoa nibs. The resulting beer has a big, malty character with complex aromas and flavors of chocolate, honey and vanilla in the beer.
ABV - 5.5%
Malts – TWo row pale, Carmel, Munich, Choclate
Hops - Tettnang, Tettnanger and Spalt-Spalter Noble
Calories per 12 oz - 230
