Taste Buds 125: Abita-zane! (Abita Amber)

From the Brewer: Abita Amber is a Munich style lager brewed with crystal malt and Perle hops. It has a smooth, malty, slightly caramel flavor and a rich amber color. Abita Amber was the first beer offered by the brewery and continues to be our leading seller. Amber is Abita’s most versatile beer for pairing with food. It has been voted “best beer” in numerous New Orleans reader polls and is used frequently in recipes of great Louisiana chefs.

Taste Buds 124: The Sixth Glass of Liquid Fire (Boulevard Sixth Glass)

From the Brewer: The Sixth Glass Quadrupel is part of Boulevard’s Smokestack Series. Drawing inspiration from the great Trappist ales of Belgium, the term “quadruple” is often used by Americans to describe a strong but approachable beer, one the Belgians would most likely call “Abt” or Abbot.  Each 35-barrel brew uses 2300 pounds of grain, consisting of two-row pale, light caramel, and Special B malts, and a measure of malted what.   This brew contains an extra 350 pounds of golden and dark brown sugars, and Noble Styrian Golding hops from Slovenia.Stored upright in a cool, dark place, this beer will mature for up to 10 years.  Drink the Sixth Glass from a goblet at 50 – 58 degrees Fahrenheit.

Taste Buds 123: All Hail the Wit! (Sam Adams Longshot Cranberry Wit)

From the Brewer: Cranberry Wit was created by Carissa Sweigart, winner of the Samuel Adams employee homebrew competition. Carissa’s beer was chosen by over 1,111 beer lovers at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival from among the 3 employee homebrew finalist.  This Cranberry Wit is spiced with a blend of cinnamon, orange peel, coriander and grains of paradise, and finished with a touch of cranberry.

From the Brewer: Crack’d Wheat is a marriage of a sophisticated Bavarian Hefeweiss and an assertive American Pale Ale.  Amarillo dry hopping drives Wisconsin Red Wheat. Traditional open top fermentation cultivates our proprietary Bavarian Weiss yeast in our own Wheat Beer Cellars. Absolutely 100% natural bottle conditioned. This is a living beer. Expect to pour a thick creamy head into your glass. Savor the fierce onslaught of clove, cinnamon, and citrus nose.

From the Brewer: To commemorate Rockyard’s 10th anniversary, they’ve brewed a behemoth, barrel aged version of Redhawk Ale. Full-bodied, intense malt flavor, enough hops to handle the load, and 10% ABV (1 for each year).  The Imperial Red is the King of Beers!

From the Brewer: Double Barrel is an English Style Bitter/Amber Ale. Leaves a mild blend of vanilla and toasted oak flavor touched with an elegant hint of English noble hops. Selectively fermented in the Firestone Union oak barrel brewing system.

Taste Buds 116: Oh Orval! (Orval Trappist Ale)

From the Brewer (via Wikipedia): Often referred to as The Queen of Trappists, Orval was first made in 1931. It has a complex and unusual flavor and aroma produced by a unique strain of yeast. The beer is light in color, slightly cloudy, and has a large, foamy head.  There is a complex aroma of leather, horse blanket, spice, and many other earthy components.  6.2% ABV
