Thanks for the correction, BHB! As you can tell, we sometimes need a stat checker when we're running our mouths. ;)

as much as people will try; New Glarus will never go outside of wisconsin. it's our thing, and Deb and Dan's promise to the people of Wisconsin. (sorry hahahaha) I thought Dogfishhead was readily available in most states. is the article talking about going to all 50 states and beyond? what about BLVD. out of mizza rah? they have some great beers. i agree with you guys about changing the scope of things. you turn from a micro to a macro (almost). i think it would ruin the integrity of the brewery and the craft beer scene. i love not being able to get some beers. it's the thrill of the chase; to seek out that one beer, you know? you can't say that by going bigger it would help. i'll go back to new glarus; you can not get it outside wisconsin (unless it's there illegally or at a beer festival). yet new glarus is doing f***ing outstanding. a $22 million dollar expansion in the past year alone with sales going up. all these craft breweries are destination points; a beer geeks mecca of sorts. i don't want to get snake river brewing in my local liquor store. i want to go to wyoming see the great Yellowstone national park and wind down with a snake river pale that i got from a Lovell WY liquor store. i'm all for small local business.
Fat Tire....i don't know man, i don't find it that great. i think if New Belgium should get a gold medal in marketing. it' not bad, i'm not ripping colorado beer. for me, it did not live up to what i thought was coming. on the other side of the token, i did not hear the hype for their "ranger IPA" and that was a great beer.

Well, here's the deal, KP... like with everything, everyone has their own tastes and opinions. You have to be a hophead to enjoy Ranger. If you're not, it will be anything but a "great beer." I like it, but it's not "great" in my book. Fat Tire is drinkable, it's their flagship and got them where they are, but by today's standards it's not great. NB has a slew of beers - hell, I'd venture to say nearly all of them actually - are better then Fatty.

There gets to a quantity point that, while you can still brew a great beer on a consistent level, the quality is going to go down because small batch craft vs. big volume ingredients is always going to win. The more you produce the more the quality goes down. It's a fact.

Love your line about the thrill of the chase. These smaller craft brewers (like New Glarus) are definitely becoming meccas and points of travel, and we're starting to see state and city tourism boards latching on to that beer wagon.

Thanks for the input KP! We've missed ya around here man! ;)
