Show Notes: UPDATES Last week’s winner was , BreweryReviewery (AKA Nate), who answered the question: Why is Pabst Beer called Pabst Blue Ribbon beer? ANSWER: It was the first beer to win a blue ribbon at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. Nate won a set of 2 "shaker" Spiegelau glasses. Congrats to Nate! This week’s trivia question is: In episode #39 of Beer Buzz we discussed a really old story about a scientist who found something in an ancient fossil. What was it that he found? If you answer correctly (in that episode’s forum thread wins) you'll get yourself a nifty set of Spiegelau glasses from their new Beer Classics line of glassware. We tend to use these as are multi-purpose use glass. As you've seen time after time on Beer Tap TV these bad boys of beer imbibing really make a difference. He found brewers yeast!
"In April 1995, during his amber-cracking spree, Cano made another important discovery. A piece of fossilized resin from Burma yielded something that looked very similar to Saccharomyces, brewer's or baker's yeast. This single-celled fungus feeds on sugars and reproduces frequently—if it has enough to eat, a culture can double in population in 90 minutes. "Yeasts are found in all kinds of vegetable matter—plants, fruits, stuff like that," Cano says. "It was fortunate for that yeast to be there at the time so it could become part of history." Using yeast extracted from a 45-million year old piece of amber, a California brewery is making a truly unique beer. |

I would in fact take a drink of that beer. I might get sick but would do it in the name of science
Great episode as always, sorry for that long VM message but the guy that had the number before me gave it out to creditors so they call me looking for him from time to time. Great fun I tell ya. Big props to states allowing bigger beers to be brewed, that rocks baby. Keep up the great work guys and Eli, how do you know I'm on facebook all day if you in turn are not on all day too?
